Behind every wise woman is another wise woman

Justisse's slogan is, "Behind every wise woman is another wise woman". I cannot tell you how powerful this is when it comes to pregnancy, childbirth and the birthing of the mother. I am a mom to three children. All my children were home births.

My pregnancies were beautiful journeys that prepared me for motherhood. No pregnancy was the same, no birth was the same, no child is the same and, at each birth, a new aspect of me, the mother, was birthed.

Being pregnant with my third child is what birthed the connection to Mother Nature in me more strongly than ever before. When a woman is connected to Mother Nature, she understands how powerful her body is, how beautiful her body is, and she is connected to her body. When she is connected to her body, she is a force to be reckoned with I discovered that my baby was in the breech position around 28 weeks. I decided that, if that was how she wanted to come into this world, that was the way it would be. So, I just went ahead and prepared myself mentally for her birth. My first two children were both home births in the city. This one was going to be a home birth with a difference as we live in the mountains now and the closest hospital is an hour and a half away. My whole town thought that I was crazy even just to contemplate a breech birth in the middle of nowhere!

I found the most incredible birthing team. I was adamantly confident that this baby had chosen me to be its mother and that she had chosen to be born in the mountains. So, that was it. My birthing team supported me 100%, never questioned me, never doubted me and, to be honest, I think they were so excited just to have a confident mother birthing at home to a breech baby. I have to add that I even had the most supportive gynae who looked at me and said that the midwife I had chosen could not be a better person and that I was in good hands.

Breech birth was insane! Words cannot describe the pain I endured for three hours. There were moments I looked into my doula's eyes thinking I was going to die but she looked back at me with such conviction that I could do this, such strength and such courage, that the energy she passed onto me was unbelievable. This is what got me through.

My little girl came out ‘bum to the world’, in the mountains and at home in the early hours of the morning. What was incredible was that she weighed a whopping 4.27kg. If you know me, I am a small woman, so this was one huge baby!

I did what everyone said was crazy and even impossible. The only reason I could do this was that I was connected to my body, I listened to my daughter, I am fit and healthy, and I had an incredibly supportive team of women who supported me every step of the way.

Women are phenomenal, powerful beings. When connected to their bodies anything is possible. This is why I want to empower every woman, to show them how truly magnificent their bodies are, to have confidence in their bodies, to believe in their bodies, to trust themselves and Mother Nature, who is profoundly greater than we can ever imagine.
